HEADING into this Thursday night’s meeting at Northam, Wanneroo trainer Debbie Padberg is on the cusp of becoming the most successful woman trainer in the State’s history.
Padberg, a strong supporter of the Northam Club, heads into Thursday’s meeting with a career total of 484 winners and is just three wins behind the 487 winners trained by Carol Warwick before she quit trotting in 2007.
Warwick’s daughter Lucy is currently second to William Pike on this season’s Perth Jockey’s Premiership.
Padberg, who began training in 1990, has trained 145 of her 484 winners on the Northam track including the 2006 Village Kid Sprint winner Mustang Fighter, 2008 Northam Pacing Cup winner De Galdearno and the 2011 York Cup winner Salliwood.
A multiple winner of the Leading Trainer Award at Burwood Park, Padberg is currently locked in a battle with Greg and Skye Bond for this years title.
Both have trained eight winners at Northam this season but Padberg’s greater number of placings has her in front with 57 points to the Bond’s 46 points.
Padberg has five starters at this week’s meeting in Our Amazing Art (Race 2), Changeover Fella (Race 3), Look Down Charlie and Spendthelot (Race 4) and Lennys In Heaven (Race 7).
