THE Northam Theatre Group Inc. is delighted to take over the hosting of the local Eisteddfod (renamed as the Northam Performing Arts Festival), to be held in the Link Theatre during the week of June 19-24 this year.
This event has a proud history in Northam, and we have found in AVAS archives that an Eisteddfod was first held in the town in 1913, and has been run annually, with brief intervals during the two World Wars.
Most Northam citizens have had some experience of performing on stage in various venues over the years.
Festival co-ordinator Rae Knight says the Syllabus has been sent out to all schools and music, dance and drama teachers throughout the Wheatbelt, and she is looking forward to receiving entries from this week.
In the past two years the Festival has attracted young performers from as far as Cunderdin, Quairading, Beverley, Goomalling and Bakers Hill, as well as all Northam schools – totalling more than 400 performances during the week.
The public is invited to attend these performances to encourage all the wonderful young people who enjoy participating in the event. More information will be forthcoming as to times of each session.
Rae asks that anyone interested in entering the various sessions should contact her as soon as possible to receive the Syllabus and other information, either on 0439972607 or raegk@iprimus.com.au
