NORTHAM Junior Cricket Association Under 16’s Grand Final was held at Bert Hawke with St Joseph’s playing Northam Senior High School in a 40 over per side match. St Joe’s won the toss and elected to bat. The side made 161 runs with the loss of only four wickets with some impressive batting on display. Zac Casey 47, Kadyn Beazley 47, Tom Malinowski 18 and Dylan Borrett 17. St Joe’s batted out the full 40 overs. NSHS’s best bowling was from Ryan Mawer with 2 for 35 off 8 overs. NSHS went into bat with a run chase of just over four runs per over from the start. Batting was slow to begin with but it was important not to lose wickets. Louis Page and Ben Howard dug in but some good bowling by St Joe’s kept the pressure on. The old adage “catches win matches” came into play with Tom DeMasi taking three catches on the day. When Tom caught Ben Howard, NSHS’s big hitter for 17 and Louis Page soon after for 17, the St Joe’s boys were off to a good start. Ryan Mawer made an impressive 22 runs but was dismissed. The wickets to follow didn’t trouble the scorers much. The final batsmen were dismissed to be 8/88 off 32 overs. Best bowling for St Joe’s was Dylan Borrett 4 for 13 off 8 overs. St Joe’s winning the 2015/2016 season Grand Final and taking the John Lucas Shield by 73 runs. Presentations for the season followed. Thanks to president Nick Norrish, NSHS coach Luke Gentle, St Joe’s coach Jermaine Davis Senior, Avon West coach Paul Clune, and to all the committee and parents throughout the year.
