THE Shire of Northam has a new recreation services manager.
Milton Brooks assumed the role on April 18 and comes with a wealth of experience.
"Local government is the organisation that has the greatest influence on people's lives," he said.
"So combine that with sport and recreation, which is a passion – I've been in the industry for over 25 years, and a facility and area that I already had a connection with, that would be the reason why I chose to come to Northam."
Mr Brooks has worked overseas in New York and London on cruise ships, however going back 10 years he was running the Wanneroo Aquamotion before we went to Kalgoorlie to run the Oasis.
The Oasis is the largest Recreation Centre in regional Australia.
"From there I went to Margaret River, back to Kalgoorlie to run my own gym for a period of time, before going to Narrogin and then up to Port Hedland," he said.
"The Narrogin experience introduced me to the Wheatbelt and the big personalities that exist in regional WA."
Mr Brooks has a clear goal for the Northam Recreation Centre.
"The primary goal at the moment is the activation of this place during the day," he said.
"The recreation centre during the day is very underutilised.
"During an evening it is very easy to fill a recreation centre, so that's not so much an issue, it's more the activation during the day that needs to occur."
Mr Brooks praised the Northam Recreation Centre as his primary base of operations.
"You'll be struggling to find an equal quality facility in Perth," he said.
