PRINCIPAL of West Northam Primary School Cheryl Prater, is excited to welcome the first of the Department of Education’s programs for three-year-old Aboriginal children.
Mrs Prater said the KindiLink play and learn lessons for parents and their three year olds would help them form a sense of belonging at school, even before they start kindergarten.
KindiLink, will run in 37 primary schools from the first term next year, working alongside families as they support their children’s learning and help them successfully transition to school.
“These sessions, for six hours per week, will make a real difference to the way your child learns when they reach us here at West Northam Primary School,” Mrs Prater said.
“KindiLink will value and support the learning that families provide.”
The sessions will be run by a qualified teacher and Aboriginal and Islander education officer from the school, Jane Parkin and Shirley Slater.
“My staff have some exciting activities planned for the play and learn sessions, including cooking, art and craft, songs and stories,” Mrs Prater said.
“I would like to see all Northam Aboriginal families who have three year-old children get involved with KindiLink this year.”
To get involved, parents are encouraged to register their interest by visiting the school or contacting Kristi Garlett on 9621 1731.
