THE shires of Northam and Toodyay teamed up with the Bendigo Banks of Northam and Toodyay on November 1 for a Keep Australia Beautiful community clean-up along the Northam-Toodyay Road.
More than 70 volunteers were up bright and early to take part in the event, collecting 410 bags of litter and a large amount of roadside debris from a 20 kilometre section of the Northam-Toodyay Road.
As an added bonus, volunteers earned $5 per bag of rubbish collected for nominated local community groups.
Shire of Northam chief executive Jason Whiteaker said it was an amazing effort and an important contribution made by volunteers to keep the community litter-free.
Many people were already doing the right thing with their litter but more people needed to stop and consider the part they can all play in keeping Australia beautiful.
The Shire of Northam thanked and congratulated everyone involved for making the event such a success.
