ON October 17 the wine and horses team will lead a group of 50 horses and riders through Northam to raise money for Alzheimer’s Australia.
The 45 kilometre trek begins in Wooroloo, following the Kep Track and CY O’Connor Pipeline.
Horses will stop for lunch at Avon Brook Winery in Clackline, where more riders will join in for the final 20km to Northam.
On Sunday riders saddle up and do it all again.
The riders will enjoy an overnight camp at Avon Valley Equestrian Centre, where there will be entertainment provided by local bands Fiik and Rum Jungle and a fundraising auction at 7.15pm.
Most overnight yards are booked out, so local rider Tina Smith is organising a short ride from the edge of Northam for locals who would like to join in and can take their horses home for the night.
You don’t have to be horsey to join in.
You can show your support in many ways:
❑ Come out of your house and cheer as the team rides past.
❑ Join in the fun and fundraising auction Saturday eventing to bid on some bargains and dance the night away.
❑ Volunteer to assist with road crossings, meals, transporting camping gear, horses, etc.
❑ Donate to the wine and horses 2015 team online at everydayhero.com.au. Most riders have their own page.
❑ Businesses can donate vouchers or items to be auctioned.
Last year this event raised almost $7000.
This year they’re aiming for $20,000.
It is estimated one in four people will be affected by Alzheimer’s and at present there is no cure for the disease.
