A CLOSE fought Avon Football League grand final went down to the wire on Sunday with Federals eventually prevailing and winning the 2015 Premiership.
The two best teams for 2015, Beverley and Federals faced off in York, and true to form the game was a cliff hanger.
The early points went to Beverley as they made a strong start and led at the first change by two goals.
The main turnaround came in the second quarter with Aubrey Jacobs imposing himself on the game, Ali and James Smith taking charge through the middle of the ground and brothers Glen and Shaun Smith providing their standard rock steady games.
Cam Kickett also bobbed up to kick three goals during this term and Federals went into the long break eleven points up.
In the second half Cam Kickett continued his deadly accurate goal kicking to eventually finish with eight for the day.
By the end of the third quarter Beverley were down by three goals but never out of the game.
In the final term Beverley fought hard but tenacious defence saw Federals maintain their three quarter time lead and a kick after the siren saw them emerge victorious 16:10:106 to Beverley’s 12:9:81.
The Feddies Fillies made it a Federals quinella by taking out the Netball 43 to the Fast Tarts 35.
Jordi Allardyce was awarded best player.
This was a turnaround from the earlier final in Cunderdin where the Railways girls had the ascendancy.
Tempering slightly the Federals celebrations was the fact that the Reserves team were beaten by a slick York Roos outfit.
After being totally dominant and undefeated all season, the Federals boys had their colours lowered by a hungrier York outfit.
