THE National Ballooning Championships will take over Northam later this month and there’s an opportunity to be a part of the excitement.
Volunteer co-ordinator Michelle Blackhurst said some important volunteer positions still needed to be filled to ensure Northam put on the best possible show for the championships.
“We are still on the look out for some enthusiastic volunteers particularly on the actual race days from August 31-September 5,” she said.
“You can nominate the number of days you wish to help out for - from one day to five.
“No experience is necessary and we will provide you with all the training you need.
“If you have thought about volunteering and doing something for the community, or are keen or getting involved in events but haven’t yet made the leap now’s your chance.”
There will be a volunteers’ briefing scheduled and more information can be found on the event website www.northamnationals.com, or by contacting Ms Blackhurst on 9622 6129 or email cdo@northam.wa.gov.au.
“We’re expecting hundreds of spectators and we have pilots from around the world coming to compete,” Ms Blackhurst said.
“It’s going to be an exciting time to be in Northam.”
The National Ballooning Champ ionships will run from August 28-September 6 but volunteers won’t be required until August 30.
The Northam Aero Club is hosting the championships, which is also actively supported by Shire of Northam, Tourism Western Australia through Royalties for Regions funding, Northam Chamber of Commerce, ABF, Windward Balloon Adventures, Avon Community Development Foundation, Kavanagh Balloons, Santos, Kleenheat Gas, WA Country Builders, the Big Picture Factory, HotFM, and Dowerin Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Services.
