A STUDENT keen to make a difference to the local migrant community and a trainer with an interest in early childhood education are in the spotlight as finalists in the WA Training Awards 2015.
Department of Training and Workforce Development director General Ruth Shean congratulated Maureen Guiloy and Danni Grundy for their achievements.
“Maureen and Danni stand out in their fields through the high level of excellence they have achieved,” Dr Shean said.
“They demonstrate the opportunities that high quality training can provide.
“I wish Maureen and Danni all the very best in this year’s awards.”
Maureen of Northam is contesting the WA Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Training Award, sponsored by the Department of Training and Workforce Development.
Maureen completed a Certificate II in Leadership Development through CY O’Connor Institute, undertaking units that included selfdevelopment, leadership development skills, teamwork and communication.
As the founder/secretary of the Filipino Community Northam, Maureen has gained the confidence to help the local migrant community, discussing with them the value of training while also enabling individuals to grasp new opportunities.
Maureen is now completing a Certificate II in Business Administration. Danni of Toodyay is vying for honours in the WA Trainer of the Year category, sponsored by the Training Accreditation Council.
With a passion to train up and coming educators in the childhood education and care sector, Danni jumped at the chance to join the training team at CY O’Connor Institute.
She delivers training to students in all corners of the Wheatbelt – students who would otherwise not have access to quality training –through an interactive online system.
Danni then drives for up to three hours to train and assess these students.
By creating an online community, Danni helps to minimise the isolation and remoteness experienced by many students in regional areas.
She also uses a range of e-learning techniques to take students on a journey that keeps them actively involved in learning.
Maureen and Danni are among 42 statewide finalists in the WA Training Awards 2015.
Winners of the individual and organisation categories of this year’s Awards will be announced at a presentation dinner on September 4, sharing in more than $80,000 in cash and prizes.
They may also have the opportunity to represent WA at the Australian Training Awards to be held in Hobart in November.
