THE board of Northam’s Avon Descent Association is keen to extend activities for the Avon Descent in Northam.
Race director Jim Smith said with the huge influx of visitors to the town exiting early on Saturday to follow the competitors, the focus was on creating more activities on Friday before the event.
While compulsory registration for all competitors was in Northam on the Friday pre-event with today’s modern communication, many of them and their support crews no longer remained in the district overnight.
It is hoped creating additional on water activities on the Friday by the Shire will retain some of the visitors and provide more for local residents do to complement The Avon River Festival.
Included in the events planned on the Friday afternoon is a tinney and tube race.
The races will be run under The Avon Descent rules and regulations with the support of the Avon Support Unit.
The organisers are keen to see as many local participants as possible with tubes available from local tyre retail outlets.
People interested in taking part in these events are encouraged to visit avondescent.com.au for more details and entry forms.
Mr Smith said if the trial proved successful organisers would look at expanding the activities.
