TOM Chrimes, Northam Senior High School (NSHS), and Morghan Breed formerly St Josephs Northam, recently attended the Rotary Club of Northam meeting to say thank you for the club’s sponsorship for them to attend the annual Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment camp at Point Walter in Perth.
It is a weekend camp held each May designed for Year 10 students to encourage their leadership skills.
Morghan attended the camp last year when she was a student at St Josephs along with Steven Barnard from NSHS.
Both students were invited to attend the camp again this year as leaders.
The Rotary Club of Northam was contacted by the camp committee and asked to sponsor Morghan and Steven for a second time, to which the club happily obliged.
Year 10 student Tom Chrimes was nominated to attend as this year’s sponsored student by the year 10 co-ordinator at Northam Senior High School Deanne Hedland.
Steven now lives in Midland so he was unable to attend but Morghan and Tom reported that they had a most enjoyable weekend and learned a lot about themselves and how to co-operate and work with others.
The next camp will be conducted in May next year.
The following week saw Bryan French ‘Frenchy’ from Radio West attend as guest speaker.
He did a great job and in appreciation the club presented him with a cheque for $500 to go towards his Give Me 5 for Kids fundraiser.
The $500 came from proceeds of the 2014 Rotary Radiowest Auction – so I guess Frenchy could say “what goes around – comes around.”
