MORRELL Bridge in the Shire of Northam will be replaced with a culvert thanks to a $108,000 funding upgrade by the Coalition Government under the Roads to Recovery program.
Federal Member for Pearce Christian Porter said the funding was part of $9.56 million allocated by the government to upgrade, repair or replace bridges across Western Australia.
“The Clydesdale Road bridge is a piece of infrastructure that, as a local member, I identified quickly as being in urgent need of repairs so I advocated hard on behalf of Northam to get a part of this Roads to Recovery funding allocated to its upgrade,” Mr Porter said.
“The Shire of Northam is responsible for a large area, which makes keeping every bridge in good condition after weathering heavy wet seasons and long dry seasons a major undertaking.”
Mr Porter said the Morrell bridge funding came on top of nearly $2.2m allocated to the Shire of Northam from the government in 2014 for local road construction and street repairs over the next five years.
“In consultation with the Shire of Northam I have been working hard with the Infrastructure Minister to ensure the region receives a good share of the Roads to Recovery funding,” Mr Porter said.
“Last year alone I worked to see the Coalition Government provide $366,020 to help build roads and repair streets in and around Northam.
