TAMMIN man Frederick Haenow is big on road safety.
So much so, the back of his Mazda ute has a series of safety messages for people to heed.
At the top, it reads 'drive safe, don't speed'.
This has been on the ute for about two years.
More recently added is the sign below it, which states 'do not overtake turning vehicle, keep 1.2m clear from rear end'.
Yellow stripes are also attached to the side of the vehicle for visibility.
Mr Haenow drives on country roads often and said he thinks three factors influence Western Australia's road toll.
"Fatigue, alcohol and drugs," he said.
Mr Haenow also said he thinks drivers and roads were equally to blame, saying people needed to drive according to their capabilities, as well as taking weather into account.
On his travels, Mr Haenow said he witnesses all sorts of dangerous driver activity.
Upon driving into Northam to meet The Avon Valley Advocate, Mr Haenow said he witnessed another vehicle overtaking on double white lines.
"People laugh at me for having the signs but it's all about spreading the message of safety and caution," he said.
"I am trying to get people to wake up".
Mr Haenow said given he had highly visible safety signs on his car, it also strongly encourages himself to set a good example.
"I abide by the road rules more than the average person should," he said.
