NORTHAM has taken part in the Women’s Pilots Baton Flight for Cancer.
The flight for cancer is a nationwide exercise in which a baton travels in a clockwise direction, raising money for a cancer organisation.
More than 70 women around Australia are participating.
Robyn Stewart, Jo O’Leary and Susan Ward received the baton during the afternoon of March 22 at the Northam Aero Club.
The trio, calling themselves Pilots with Flare, has so far raised up to $3000 for the Cancer Council.
The team took off for Narrogin, Kojonup and Albany as part of the baton’s journey.
“Although we are flying together in a team, we are Ms Stewart said.
“The baton has been in balloons, float planes, gliders and planes both big and small.”
The baton was presented to a female airforce PC9 pilot before the team returned home that night.
The baton’s final destination is Launceston on April 22, just in time for the Women’s Pilot’s Association conference.
