WESTERN Power workers at the Northam depot were suddenly exposed to the elements yesterday afternoon as a strong wind gust blew off three quarters of the depot's roof.
Regional manager Adrian Stewart said workers at the depot fled to a nearby amenities building to seek shelter.
No-one was injured.
"A sudden gust peeled the roof off with an enormous roar," he said.
For the foreseeable future work in Northam will be conducted from Western Power's nearby amenities building.
"Unfortunately the internet server and other equipment is in the main depot building so some contingency plans will be put in place so work can be effectively dispatched again to the crews in Northam," he said.
A power outage in the region was also the result of afternoon storms in the Northam region.
