THIS summer the Northam Library is running a special book club program for children during the January school holidays.
At the end of the summer program a party for all children who participated will be held with food, games and a DJ.
Certificates will be presented by Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies and Northam Rotary president Jan Horesly.
A giant Scholastic Book Fair is also planned.
One chapter of an adventure book will be read per week to get children hooked on storytelling.
"I am happy to say we are the first library in Australia to be able to access a Scholastic Fair in this manner and it will assist us in purchasing further books for the Children's Library," Shire of Northam programs development officer Hayley Ayers-Findlay said.
Each week as part of the activities of the book club program, children will be given clues to help solve a mystery at the library.
Once they solve the clues they will receive a token they can then use to enter the draw to win a giant stocking.
"We are asking all local merchants to consider donating a prize either by way of a voucher or object suitable for a child between the ages of 6-12 years to be included in our giant stocking raffle of books, games, art supplies and toys," Ms Ayers-Findlay said.
"Ideally we would like to display the giant stocking towards the end of December to encourage as many children as possible to come along each week and participate, and along the way discover reading is fun and the library is a great place to be.
"If you are willing to donate you can either drop off your donation at the front desk or email Hayley at pdolib@north am .wa.gov.au and she will happily come and pick it up."
Ms Ayers-Findlay said alternatively cash donation could be made using the following bank details:
