A WONGAN Hills student stood out from the rest at the November 14 WA College of Agriculture - Cunderdin graduation.
Matthew Lane was Dux of the College and won awards for sheep and wool production, animal and plant production, English and mathematics all at stage 3 level.
Runner-up dux Emily Jaekel is a student from Ongerup.
The VET program dux was Jarrod Clarke (Bolgart).
There were 52 students from year 12 qualifying with a total of 214 certificates ranging from Certificate I to Certificate III as well as the WA Certificate of Secondary Education.
Many gained university entrance either through an ATAR or by direct entry.
Principal Bernard Beatty said: "It is a proud day for the college. During the year we have had many great successes including those in the autumn sports carnival, Wagin Woolorama, the Graeme Wood cricket shield, Glen Jakovich Cup and at Country Week.
"Our students had a big win in the Farm Skills competition at the Royal Show along with others in shearing and wool handling as well as for furniture making at the State Wood Show.
"We also received awards in the ABC Heywire competition," he said.
Mr Beatty acknowledged the contribution of college board retiring chairman Kerryn Olive,r a board members for five years.
"Working with the board, Mrs Oliver has developed our business plan and initiated changes to the collection and reviewing of student and school data," Mr Beatty said.
"Submissions she wrote resulted among other things, in the college winning the WA Training Awards for VET Excellence in 2013 and 2014 and being a finalist for the Secondary School of the Year in both years.
"Our recent Independent Public School review commended her work at the college," he said
Mr Beatty also paid tribute to the board as a whole, the college staff for their dedication and the farm advisory committee.
He told the graduating students to look after and respect themselves.
Other awards included the Australian Defence Force Leadership Award won by Dylan Booth (Wongan Hills) and the Farmways scholarship and Most Improved award to Matthew Pettit (Carnamah).
Year 11 student Jeremy Bryan (Moora) received a Grains Research and Development Corporation scholarship.
