OCTOBER 30 will see the Northam Library closed for the day as the library goes green with the installation of 30 solar panels.
The panels will produce about 30 kilowatts of energy enabling the library to offsets its current energy running costs.
Staff are very happy the Northam Shire has invested in the long term sustainability of this project, especially as this will reduce our environmental footprint and create a better environment for future generations.
Shire of Northam chief executive Jason Whiteaker said he was excited about the development.
"The Shire of Northam is strongly committed to environmentally sustainable initiatives," he said.
"The use of solar panels on the library highlight this commitment and will provide lasting benefits to the council and community".
The library will re-open at 9.30am on October 31.
The library apologised for any inconvenience caused to their patrons during this time.
The evening community talk on pruning will be rescheduled for next year.
