AVONVALE and West Northam primary schools united last Thursday for a storytelling project at the Bridgeley Centre.
Both principals said the schools were like-minded and teamed up often.
Avonvale and West Northam applied for a joint $5000 application from the Sangora Education Foundation to promote languages.
Students were given a set list of questions to answer in groups and were paired up with respected local elders.
Questions saw students sharing favourite hobbies, special memories, cultural activities and early memories.
The spoken stories were digitally recorded via computer program Audacity.
Ultimately, an illustrated storybook will be made with plans to present a copy to the Northam Shire Council.
The storybook will be translated in both English and Noongar language.
