THE Freo Dockers School girls Cup was held August 20 at Jubilee Oval.
The cup is a competition for Years 8-10 students.
Participating schools included two Northam Senior High School teams, and one team each from St Josephs and York District High School.
The fixtures gave each team the opportunity to play three games each.
Games consisted of two 15 minutes halves with five minute breaks at half time.
Midlands region football development manager Glen Collins said the number of girls playing Australian rules football was only getting bigger.
"It is a fast growing market and I think it's due to the exposure and promotion AFL receives in the media," he said.
"Skills are getting better and you find girls play football with their brothers."
Coming up from Perth last week to watch the school girls cup were footballers Kara Donnellan and Kirby Bentley.
The pair played in the curtain raiser before round 14s Melbourne Demons versus Western Bulldogs clash.
Kirby said she grew up watching football.
"I watched my father play and having grown up in a country town football was a massive thing," she said.
The grand plan is a televised national wom en's competition to be functioning by 2020, and some AFL clubs could adopt women's teams permanently.
