BROOKFIELD Rail has received certification for its commitment to safety with 12 of the company's sites across the network receiving the Silver WorkSafe Plan Certificate of Achievement from WorkSafe WA.
WorkSafe Plan Certificates of Achievement are awarded to organisations which demonstrate their rates of work-related injury and disease are reducing or kept at low levels.
This was the second time Brookfield Rail was awarded a WorkSafe Plan Certificate of Achievement.
Executive manager of safety and compliance Vic Bliss said the certificate demonstrated Brookfield Rail's ongoing commitment to the safe operation of the line in addition to fostering the safety and wellbeing of our people and contractors.
"This is a significant achievement for the business, with 12 separate sites awarded the silver level certification," Mr Bliss said.
"We pride ourselves on having a good safety culture and a robust safety system.
"We believe in empowering our employees with the safety process, giving them responsibility, ownership, accountability and setting the benchmark for industry best practice.
"Having a safe workforce is extremely important to us. Not only do we want to meet regulatory obligations, we want to be satisfied that our employees are well and safe, both physically and mentally -we have implemented a number of health and life wellbeing initiatives to support this."
WorkSafe Western Australia commissioner Lex McCulloch visited Brookfield Rail's Merredin, Northam and Kalgoorlie offices to present the certification, which was awarded earlier this year.
Mr McCulloch congratulated Brookfield Rail on the achievement.
Brookfield Rail began the assessment process in October last year.
It involved a range of audits and reviews in order to establish the level of compliance to the WorkSafe Plan designed to ensure the work-place injury rate was kept well below the industry benchmarks.
