REGIONAL Development Minister Terry Redman was in Wyalkatchem last Tuesday to open a new community centre to be known as The Bushel.
It was made possible with funding from the state government's Royalties for Regions program.
The Bushel, funded with more than $823,000 from Royalties for Regions, will house the Community Resource Centre, library, visitor centre, CBH museum and offices for community groups.
Mr Redman said co-locating a range of vital amenities into the purpose-built facility would improve existing community services and help the Shire of Wyalkatchem offer improved services and assistance to residents.
"It is crucial that small communities in regional Western Australia have access to key services and it is my hope that The Bushel becomes a valuable part of this local community," he said.
"Since 2008, Royalties for Regions has delivered 3500 projects worth $4.2 billion, helping build a brighter future for regional WA.
"What we have delivered so far and what we are continuing to achieve through Royalties for Regions is our goal to build strong regional communities that are desirable places to live, visit and invest."
Mr Redman said the Wheatbelt Development Commission's recently drafted Regional Investment Blueprint would help guide Royalties for Regions investment through to 2050.
"Once finalised, the blueprint will provide an investment framework for the entire region and community amenities such as this are one of the key areas of the draft Wheatbelt blueprint," he said.
The Wheatbelt Regional Investment Blueprint closed to public comment on July 18.
The $1.1 million community centre was funded with $823,814 from Royalties for Regions, while the remaining funds were provided by the Shire of Wyalkatchem and Lotterywest.
