THE week kicked off on Wednesday with the Holden Scramble, a traditional four-person ambrose event, the inaugural year for the new Holden dealership, Northam Holden.
A good field of 67 starters came from surrounding areas of Toodyay, Goomalling, Bakers Hill and even two teams from as far away as Narrogin.
At the end of the day less than two strokes separated the top two teams.
The winning team consisted of Chadd Hunt, Graeme Hunt, Ronald Nottle, and Bill Wagner.
On local player Chadd Hunt's team were his father and his headmaster.
After the win Chadd Hunt was given one hour's detention for missing the putt on No. 9 green.
The runners-up were another father-son combination from the Narrogin team, with Robert and Billy Rybarczyk as well as Peter Rynski and Clayton Ballard.
With the long hitting of Robert Rybarczyk and the chipping and putting abilities of the rest of the team ensured the standard of golf was anything but boring.
Saturday's event was the WA Farm Trees Trophy , a par event sponsored by Lou and Carol Dimasi.
Trees, like golfers, come in many sizes and shapes and also like some golfers are rarely found on the fairways.
The weather was particularly unkind to the field of 24 golfers who started out in wet and windy conditions.
Soon the heavy rain fell and soaked the players and the field quickly reduced to 19 golfers of questionable sanity.
Par is a difficult event at the best of times but in the icy cold wet conditions scoring was extremely difficult.
One player was revelling in the conditions, the veteran Bruce Smart who has lived through two ice ages.
He was not phased by the cold weather coming in with a match winning plus three.
Phil Becker came in second with plus 2 and third was Les Lee Jnr on plus 1.
The A-grade winner was Phil Becker on plus 2, runner-up Mick Wladyka minus 3. B-grade winner Darren Oliver minus 3, runner-up Les Esszig minus 4, C-grade winner Les Lee Jnr plus 1, runner-up Don Bates even.
Novelties for nearest the pin No. 12 D Oliver, best third shot No. 18 D Negus, long drive No. 1 D Negus, long putt No. 5 D Negus.
Sunday's event was the Mitre 10 trophy, a stableford event.
Like the array of tools at Mitre 10 the winning golfer would need to drill their drives, grind out their chips and hammer their putts, routing out the win to socket to the other players.
One player, Ron Pitts, played a riveting round of golf, leaving the rest of the field behind to win with a great score of 38 points.
In a move that was sneakier than a Richmond ruckman's uppercut, Roger Podmore knocked over Ray Wiktorski on a countback to take out second spot with a score of 35 points.
Novelties long putt No. 8 R Podmore, long putt No. 10 M Wladyka
Next week's events: Saturday and Sunday Corolin Cup rounds one and two.
