Sue wins cup
GOLFER Sue Button was the winner of the Shaddock Cup, a 27-hole stableford event played at Quairading last week.
Button, a consistent player on her home course, said the Quairading course was in great condition and a treat to play on and resulted in her carding nett 60 points.
Jenny and Kevin Shemeld also travelled last week when they participated in the Wyworrie Cup at Mukinbudin finishing with a good score of 41 stableford points.
On the home front the ladies and men played nine holes in the Sunday competition for the Coodernuppin trophies.
The par competition was won by Jenny Shemeld. First runner-up was Caroline Bradley with three gross, Sue Button on No. 8 also won long put on No. 7 and nearest the pin on No. 8 and Jill Rogers on No. 14. The men's winner was Tim York with nett 19 points, gross Ivan Rogers 10 and nearest the pin on No. 11 Ashley Mackin, best second on No. 17 Mike Crane.
The winner of the Wednesay Cunderdin Combined Tyres trophy was Jill Rogers 72 nett, runner-up Jenny Shemeld 73 gross, Caroline Dixon 103, nearest the pin on Nos. 8 and 14 Jenny Shemeld.
Congratulations to Ypie Thomson who celebrated a birthday last week. Ypie, who is recovering from knee operations, was thrilled when several of her friends and sister Jo arrived for afternoon tea.
Hockey notes
TAMMIN were at home to Merredin last weekend and although they defended strongly for the first half, Merredin broke loose in the second and scored three goals to Tammin nil.
Players' choice award went to Emma Button and coach's award to Mel Wilcox.
With a bye this weekend the team is looking to regroup for the run in to the final rounds with the ladder as follows: Cunderdin 19, Quairading 15, Merredin 11, Meckering 8, Burra coppin 8, Tammin 7, Kellerberrin 0.
KATS news
THERE was a marked improvement for both the league and reserve teams in last week's matches against Railways.
In the league game Railways led at the first break but the KATS came back in the second quarter to lead 5-9 to 5-1.
Railways got away again in the next quarter leading 8-7 allowing the KATS to score only three points.
All the suspense was to come in the dying seconds of the game when Railways lead 10-10 to the KATS 10-7 and Ray Griffiths was to kick for a goal after the siren sounded.
Griffiths kicked truly to give the KATS a well earned three-point win.
The best of the goal kickers were Kede Phillips (five) and Drew Kent (three) but it was Griffiths' single goal that won the game. Best players were Mitch Innes, Matt Whitebread, Ray Griffiths and Joel Innes.
The young reserve boys acquitted themselves well playing their best game for the season, matching it with Railways to the final break when they trailed 5-2 to the visitors 5-4 and at the final siren they went down 7-4 to 8-4.
Cam Leurs was the best of the goal scorers with two, while best players were Jeremy Dyer, Cam Leurs, Joe Wilson, Jason Stevens and Tom Tiller.
