SPORTING Club tea on July 5 was also a special event, to farewell and thank Craig and Fiona Hitchcock and family for their contribution to the community.
Craig, Fiona and daughters Trista-Ann and Chloe were in attendance and had an apology from their eldest daughter Caitlin who is currently travelling Europe.
Club president Neville Burges commenced by thanking the Hitchcocks for their help in varied ways as members of the club for many years, and called on individual presidents of sporting groups to expand more on roles held.
Bowling club president Ian Siegert told everyone how Mr Hitchcock had been a pennant player for many years, playing 82 games.
Mr Hitchcock had also been part of the fours championship team.
Tennis club president Andrew Knapp said the couple had been members of the tennis club since 1998.
He also said they would be missed and would be welcome to bring their racquets any time they were in the area.
Golf club president Rod Carter said as well as Mr Hitchcock being a regular golfer, Ms Hitchcock had assisted with catering.
A common theme running through the speeches was the Hitchcocks had had been willing helpers at busy bees, catering and holding positions where required.
Mr Hitchcock thanked everyone with a most entertaining speech, recalling how as a child, no kids were allowed in the club and said how great it is to see families in the club together these days.
He thanked bar manageress Anne Carter and the Meckering community as the family had enjoyed happy years here.
A presentation was made on behalf of the sporting club to the couple, who now reside in Mount Pleasant. Chefs for the tea, who prepared delicious meals for 60 adults and 15 children, were Karen, Ian and Kelsey Siegert, Tamara Manser and Neil Carter and Karen and Stephen Smith.

WELCOME to Archer Humphrey Park, baby son of Danae Beard and Alistair Park, who was born on July 8. Archer, who weighed three kilograms, is the first grandchild for Robert and Vicki Beard.

GOLF played on July 5, sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank, a stroke competition, was the first round of the championships.
The winner was Rodney Pimlott 68 nett, runner up Darren Halse 72 nett and Rodney Carter 73 nett.
In the second round, played July 6 and sponsored by Northam Holden, The winner was Corey Leeson 74 nett, second Darren Halse 75 nett and third Rodney Carter 77 nett.

THE hockey girls travelled to Quairading on July 5 for the first game of the second round.
Quairading had a resounding 4-0 win.
Best and fairest player for Meckering, sponsored by Specialised Trees went to Erica Leeson and the coach's award, sponsored by the Meckering Roadhouse went to Erin Neilson.
The next match will be a home game on July 19, against Burracoppin, to start at 2.30pm.
