THREE rounds of stroke golf over two weekends will determine the Northam Club Champion for the 2014 season.
The first round was played on a perfect day for golf, with the players anxiously awaiting tee off times to commence their quest to become club champion or win the Northam Hardware trophy for the best player in this one.
At the end of the day Grant Scollay took out the trophy on a countback from Cameron Stewart after they both finished in with great scores of 68.
Bendigo Bank Gross Trophy winner was Anthony Bennett with a score of 75.
A-grade winner was P Becker with his 69 ahead of runner-up A Bennett on 70.
In the B-grade O Griffiths won on a countback from P Beazley both with 72.
The C-grade went to P Bray with 72, while runner up L Lee snr had 75
In the novelties the long putt on the 16th went to D Negus, nearest the pin on the 14th was O Griffiths, while on the sixth hole it was P Beazley. Best third shot on the fifth hole was won by A Bennett.
The second round of the club championship was contested on Sunday when the field was also contesting the Grafton Electrics Trophy.
As with the sponsor, players would need to be switched on, power away and surge to the lead, otherwise it will be lights out for round three.
One bright spark, Matt Woods was playing exceptionally well, hitting the fairways and sinking the vital putts.
Round one leaders Scollay and Stewart found day two more difficult, Stewart wiping a hole on the 15th, but recovering well later in the day.
Woods won the day's trophy with a score of 70, beating Rob Gray on a countback.
Bendigo Bank gross trophy winner was Daniel Negus with his 76
In the A-grade D Becker 72 won on a countback from M Wladyka 72. B-grade winner R Wiktorski had 71 while runner-up O Griffiths finished with 73.
Les Lee jnr 72 won the C-grade with P Bray 76 the runner-up.
Novelties money hole Negus, best second shot on the first hole Negus, long putt on the third R Kennedy, nearest the pin on the 12th M Woods and best third shot on the18th was achieved by Bennett.
Championship leaders are Negus 77, 76, 153; Bennett 75, 81, 156; D Becker 80, 81, 161; P Becker 79, 83, 162 and M Woods 83, 79, 162.
B-grade leaders are R Wiktorski 87, 86, 173; Scollay 84, 90, 174 and O Griffiths 87, 89 176.
Ahead in the C-grade are Bray 92, 96, 188; C Stewart 88, 102, 190; Lee jnr 100, 97, 197 and R Gray 104, 94, 198.
