Avon boys compete at state level

THE Avon under 15 boys’ hockey side competed in the State Hockey Championships during the school holidays.

Players from Northam, York, Toodyay and Wongan Hills combined to play teams from throughout the state.

The team was placed in a pool of six teams which played a round robin competition to rank them.

Avon won two of these games, drew two and lost one.

This unfortunately place Avon fourth.

This result mirrored the points allocation; three points for a win and only one point for a draw.

Wins were crucial to rank highly.

In the playoffs Avon played another draw and finished with a win.

The final ranking of seventh out of 12 teams seemed disappointing considering Avon only lost one out of its eight games.

This was a credit however to the players however who fought out every game, including a draw against the overall winners Bunbury.

Coaches Leon Temby and Blakely Paynter and team manager Andrea Bear looked after the team during a fun three days of hockey.
