LAST Saturday the 29 golfers out to contest the MJW Airconditioning Trophy were greeted with great weather and a lush course.
Most of the golfers present had the same features as the sponsor’s airconditioners, an assortment of large and small units, the ability to blow hot and cold and they perform better when they are “switched on”.
It was soon evident that the fine conditions would produce many good results, at the end of the day the two best scores needed to be separated on a countback.
The winner of the day was the ever consistent David Jezierski, coming in with 40 points beating Rob Lucy, also with 40 points.
The gross winner was Cameron Evans with 29 points.
The women’s winner was Melissa Dasborough with 37 points and second was Fran Rak with 31 points.
The A-grade winner was N James on a countback from A Kean both with 36 points and third was S Dinka with 35points.
The B-grade winner was G Balt on 39 points, second was G O’Meara on 36 points and third was B Smart with 35 points.
The C-grade winner was D Oliver with 38 points, second was B Harkins with 37 points and third was P Roe with 36 points on a countback from C Hunt and C Stewart.
The NAGA winner, and adding some prestige to this award, was Phil Becker with 24 points.
For the novelties, best second shot on No. 2 was C Evans, longest drive on No. 5 was T Hunter, nearest the pin on No. 6 was C Evans, No. 9 was M Speciale, No. 12 was R Pitts, No. 14 was G Balt, longest drive 18-plus handicap on No. 15 was C Stewart, longest putt on No. 17 was P Roe and best third shot on No. 18 was C Evans.
Sunday’s competition was the mixed foursome championships – Purslowe Tinetti Funerals Trophy.
After 27 holes of golf the clear gross winners were Phil and Jenny Becker with 122 and the nett winners were Norma Lawler and Les Lee with 112.
For the novelties, best second shot on No. 2 was Sargeant/Rak, longest putt on No. 7 was Giblett/Pitts, nearest the pin on No. 9 was Lee/Giblett, longest putt on No. 11 was J Becker, nearest the pin on No. 14 was W Richards and best second shot on No. 16 was Sargeant/Rak.
Those not playing in the foursome championships competed in a Stableford competition, with the winner being Peter Beazley scoring 37 points from D Jezierski with 35 points.
The novelty was longest putt on No. 10, which was won by S Dinka.
On Saturday is the Northam Tyre Power trophy – monthly mug and on Sunday is the Norm and Joy Buckless Trophy.
