Long day for Northam golfers

TRADER’S Day has traditionally been the endurance event of the year at Northam Golf Club, starting at sunrise and finishing well after 5pm.

With 36 holes of par, it is enough to test the mental and physical strength of all players.

At the half-way mark, two groups had the early lead: Rob Lucy and Grant Scollay, and Richards and Stewart, both with plus eight, closely followed by Spadaccini /Bray and Gogan/Bowen both with plus seven.

Often early leaders cannot maintain the momentum and fade out in the second round but not in the case of the pairing of Scollay and Lucy, who added another plus eight to the morning round to win outright with plus 16 for the day.

Runners-up also played strongly all day, Peter Richards and Cameron Stewart with rounds of plus eight and plus six totalling plus 14.

Third were Brian Gogan and Phil Bowen with plus 12.

Gross winners with minus four and minus three totaling minus seven were Daniel Negus and Rob Sargeant.

The winners of the afternoon round were Neil James and Peter Locke with plus eight.

Richo finished his speech by thanking the others in his playing group, Becker Phil and Schutz Mike.
