Fatal car crash raises local concerns

A 31-YEAR-OLD Dowerin woman died at the scene after a two-car crash on the intersection of the Goomalling-Toodyay and Bejoording roads at Wongamine last Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 3.17 pm when the Dowerin woman was travelling west along the Goomalling-Toodyay road.

A 55-year-old woman from Horrocks was travelling south on Bejoording road when the cars collided.

She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with a fractured femur.

A stop sign is in place at the intersection facing Bejoording road traffic.

However locals say the intersection is dangerous and there should be better signage.

Around eight months ago there was an accident involving three cars, but fortunately there were no fatalities on that occasion.

“Neighbours who have lived in the area over a lifetime say over the years there have been multiple fatalities on this corner,” one resident said.

“It appears that it is the intersection of the three shires of Northam, Toodyay and Goomalling and no one is sure whose responsibility the road is.

“We just want the road fixed.”

Another resident said much the same.

“I know the road so it is okay,” he said.

“But it needs more signage for those who are not familiar with the area.”
