THE senior Department of Immigration and Citizenship officer at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre west of Northam will live in town.
Ian Munro has been appointed the centre's director of detention operations.
He will live in Northam with his wife, his son and partner and grandchild.
Mr Munro has extensive experience with the department.
It was broken for 14 years when he held a senior position with Media Monitors.
However he has been back with the department for 10 years.
Mr Munro was in charge of the Curtin Immigration Detention Centre near Derby for six weeks last year.
He also spent four months in charge of the Scherger Immigration Detention Centre near Weipa in far north Queensland.
Mr Munro was also involved in the management of Baxter Immigration Detention Centre near Port Augusta in South Australia which closed in September 2007.
