CLINTON Kleynhans has been with the Shire of Northam since November 4 last year.
He serves in the role of executive manager engineering services, overseeing civil works, construction and maintenance.
Areas of interest include the cemetery, airport and parks and gardens.
The majority of his career has been with Main Roads.
He spent 12 years at the head office in Perth, two years in the Bunbury office and two years in Northam.
Prior to his Shire appointment, Mr Kleynhans spent two years in mining, structural, mechanical and maintenance projects.
"The role is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable because it's what I have always done," Mr Kleynhans said.
He said the staff had been helpful and knowledgeable.
"It's hard to beat local knowledge," Mr Kleynhans said.
"They are excited about the changes the chief executive is implementing."
Mr Kleynhans said he wants to focus on project timeframes, budgets, safety, culture and quality of work.
Upon arrival, he established dedicated crews for better coverage and value for money.
There is currently a strong focus on vegetation clearing and delivering capital works projects which include road widening, resealing and improving other black spots.
"My wife is from Northam and good to be back and establish contacts I used to have," Mr Kleynhans said.
