TWO volunteers have again been recognised at the Dowerin Field Days 50 Year Reunion for their voluntary work.
Thelma Hatwell and John Metcalf were recognised by Minister for Community Services Tony Simpson at a ceremony earlier this year, but member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies took the opportunity to acknowledge the pair with people who know and respect them.
Mr Simpson had called for nominations from the community to recognise people who have given over 50 years of voluntary service to one organisation.
"Volunteering is the lifeblood of our country communities and 50 years is an extraordinary and significant contribution to making Western Australian communities stronger and more vibrant, compassionate and creative," Ms Davies said.
"The Wheatbelt is made up of people who have given selflessly and worked tirelessly but it is certainly worth acknowledging those that make this contribution over such a significant period of time."
Ms Hatwell began working at the Dowerin Machinery Field Days with the Dowerin Progress Association as a steward when the first Field Days were held in 1965.
From that event until the present day she has been a volunteer in various catering roles and capacities including president of catering committee (1972-1988 and 1994), vice president of catering committee (1989), catering committee member (1972-2013).
Ms Hatwell is currently a venue manager (shared) for the catering committee.
She is a life member of Dowerin Machinery Field Days.
Mr Metcalf was the inaugural chairman, taking on the role in 1965 and remaining in the position for 14 consecutive years.
He has been a member of the Dowerin Field Days management committee for the duration, celebrating 50 years of voluntary service with the 50th anniversary of the Field Days.
Mr Metcalf has been a volunteer in various capacities over the entire 50 years, taking on leadership roles, donation of equipment, preparation on site, attending planning meetings, leading delegations to promote the Field Days.
He is also a life member of Dowerin Machinery Field Days.
"It is indeed a pleasure to acknowledge the 50 years of voluntary service to the Dowerin Machinery Field Days both Thelma and John have contributed," Ms Davies said.
"I've no doubt your dedication has inspired the commitment of many others to take up the challenge and continue the tradition of working hard to make your community a better place to live and work."
