ACUTELY aware of the tagline 'use it or lose it', members of the Toodyay AvonLink Support Group (TASG) travelled to Perth on the AvonLink train on April 11 to familiarise themselves with Perth's public transport system.
The 20 Toodyay community members, including shire councillors, representatives from the Toodyay Historical Society and Community Resource Centre took the trip so they can promote use of the AvonLink to other Toodyay community members.
They were joined for part of the journey by local Member for Moore, Shane Love MLA.
Passengers travelled via AvonLink from Toodyay to Midland and Perth City where they were given a tour of those train stations and available services.
Transperth staff explained current ticketing practices and services available at the stations as well as changes likely into the future.
The group then took a CAT bus to the Barrack Street jetty and the ferry to South Perth.
Toodyay Shire councillor, Paula Greenway said last week's trip was to educate those passengers who were relatively mobile, but TASG were currently getting another trip organised for those who were less mobile or visually impaired.
"The trip was a great success and made us all aware of what is possible via public transport," Ms Greenway said.
"The AvonLink is a fantastic option for Toodyay commuters as there are seats available as well as wifi, meaning travellers can work on the train should they choose to do so.
"Toodyay Avonlink Support Group will continue to promote use of the AvonLink within our own community and beyond, as we know that if we don't use it, we'll lose it," she said.
