COLES team members at Northam hosted their own celebrations last Wednesday to mark the Australian-owned company's 100th birthday.
The local store, which has 80 team members, had a morning tea, complete with centenary-themed cake for their team members and long term customers last Wednesday morning.
Among those celebrating were Linda Singleton and Yaddy Pulleine, who have worked at Coles Northam for more than 35 years, along with Cheryl Richardson who celebrated over 25 years' service with the store.
Northam team members also celebrated their store renewal via a new bake house and a fresh fruit and vegetable section.
Coles Northam store manager Miguel Pardos said his team was proud to be involved in celebrating the Coles centenary.
"We're really excited about hosting a Coles centenary event at the Northam store," Mr Pardos said.
"Coles has definitely come a long way since the first store opened, but the company's commitment to quality, service and value has remained unchanged.
"Coles is as dedicated today as it was 100 years ago to serving the needs of local shoppers and producers."
The Northam store opened to local customers in 1974.
The original Coles store was established by GJ Coles on April 9, 1914 in Collingwood, Victoria as a variety store offering nothing over two pounds and sixpence.
Coles established itself in Western Australia by opening its first variety store at Hay Street, Perth in 1932.
