EARTHWORKS began on Monday for the new water playground in Bernard Park.
The playground will be approximately 200 square metres and consist of geyser plates, which shoot water upwards.
It is primarily SuperTowns funded.
Community infrastructure project manager Chadd Hunt said it is hoped the water playground will be up and running for Easter.
Blackwell and Associates landscape architects are involved in the project providing advice with regard to the positioning and features of the playground as well as ancillary amenities in association with Water Features by Design, the company constructing the playground.
They will also be involved in a long-term plan for greater Bernard Park.
Mr Hunt said there is a need to look at all existing and possible future uses so decisions such as the location of the water playground do not hinder future developments of the area, recognising the popularity of the area.
"We will first complete the water playground and then on to the remaining components of the master plan," Mr Hunt said.
