FOR the first time the Northam Running Club held an event on the Kep track.
With a distances of 10 kilometres, 5km and 2.5km on offer, and starting from the base of Mt Ommaney, the task of climbing the steep 400m Kep track hill twice in the longer distance with the temperature also sitting around 30C was enough to convince all to settle on the lesser distances.
In the 5km event Troy Robertson used some track knowledge to cruise to victory and set the record for the course.
He led the field from the start and ran in with a time of 22:28.
Second was Simon Northey who again showed good hill strength and held off a fast finishing David Warburton.
Northey ran second in 24:40 while Warburton finished third in 25:00.
There were 16 runners in the 2.5km field.
Again it was Robertsons who led the pack. Renae and Deven worked of each other nicely to come in together for first place in 12:22 and jointly set the record.
Third place went to improving youngster Nicholas Warburton who was not far off the pace, finishing in 13:04.
Rob Harris kept the youngsters honest, running in fourth on a time of 14:24 and getting line honours ahead of his daughter Jayne Harris who achieved 17:00.
Life member Bevan Lawler ran sixth in 17:33, holding off Georgia Quin, seventh, in 18:04.
The Northam Running Club now moves to the business end of the year with the 5km championships.
All runners and walkers are welcome.It begins at the Muresk Campus down near the oval, on Thursday, at 5.45pm.
Distances will be the 5km, or 2.5km.
