THE community of Beverley is gearing up for the Beverley Harvest Festival to be held at Avondale Discovery Farm on Sunday, November 25.
Harvest is an exciting time of year, when farmers gather the fruits of their year’s toil.
Regardless of the season, harvest goes ahead and Avondale would like to share some of those processes with people from all walks of life.
There will be something to interest each family member.
Farm animals for the young and young at heart, and vintage machinery in action for those old enough to remember will be there.
There will also be music and dancing for folk with a cultural leaning, country craft stalls for the shopaholics and Devonshire teas for those who want to sit and soak up the rural atmosphere.
The Harvest Festival will feature a working display of harvesting techniques from early times right through to the present, with hand-operated machines, horse-drawn machinery, vintage tractors and then a modern 40-foot front header (complete with GPS, climate control and surround sound system), all operating in the paddock harvesting a wheat crop with local farmers providing interpretation of the processes.
This activity will be complemented by displays of the value adding and end product, including local produce tastings.
Other attractions on the day will be rural book sales, working dogs, shearing, a farrier, a vintage tractor parade, stationary engines, rides and free farm tours.
Beverley Harvest Festival is held at Avondale Discovery Farm, six kilometres west of Beverley.
Entry is $10 for adults, $5 concession and children under 12 free.
