AVON's boys had a very successful campaign at the recent under 13 hockey state championships held during the first week of the holidays.
Twenty-one teams made up the B-Grade, the largest entry for many years.
These were split into three pools of seven in which each team played each other in a round robin format.
Avon positioned second after these preliminary games and was promoted into a group consisting of the top two teams from each pool.
These teams had to play each other to decide the championship.
To the admiration and delight of the parents and supporters, the team eventually came equal second but ranked third behind a team Avon had beaten earlier.
It was evident that players from different local teams became good friends and combined together well on the field.
Notable was the even spread of ability throughout the whole team.
With this relatively young side, with the majority still being in primary school, hopefully an even better result will eventuate next year.
Max Bradfield and Lewis Bignell did a great job leading the side.
Well done to coach Leon Temby and manager Debbie deMol for their efforts in making the championship such a success.
