TOODYAY local, Charlie Wroth took centre stage at the weekend’s NAB Cup match when he experienced the thrill of tossing the coin in front of thousands of football fans at Subiaco Oval.
On Saturday Charlie experienced the dream of many football fans when he met the opposing captains from West Coast and Port Adelaide and accompanied them in the centre circle for the pre-match coin toss.
Charlie has been described as the ‘heart and soul’ of the relief efforts after the devastating fires that tore through the Toodyay region on December 29 last year.
Retiring from his role as Shire President in 2009, he is now a councillor of the Toodyay Shire and oordinator
of the Recovery Committee.
Charlie said he was humbled by the opportunity to represent the Toodyay community in front of a packed Subiaco Oval.
“The generosity of NAB is overwhelming and I’m humbled to represent the community of Toodyay in front of so many people,” Charlie said.
“I’m still in shock to be honest.”
Local NAB spokeswoman Bree-Arna Silcock said Charlie received the experience through NAB’s partnership with the NAB Cup competition which focused on bringing football to the community and the fans.
“We are really pleased to offer this opportunity to Charlie,” Bree-Arna said.
“The NAB Cup is a fantastic national competition that takes footy to areas of Australia that wouldn’t normally be exposed to live AFL action.”
As a keen supporter of the AFL, NAB is proud to support the four-week competition, which gives talented young players the opportunity to experience their first senior AFL matches after being selected in the NAB AFL draft.
