NORTHAM Basketball Association under 14 girls made the journey to Perry Lakes for the 2010 BWA Junior Girls Country Championships on Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14.
The players included Jordi Allardyce, Jasmina Ilic, Olivia Hunter, Jessica Ryan, Katelyn Northey, Aleisha Power, Bianca Garlett and Narissa James.
Coaches were Jenny Jones and Michelle O’Driscoll, scorer was Nikki Allardyce and team manager Lee Ilic.
Many parents also made the trip to cheer the girls on.
Saturday round one commenced at 8am and this game demonstrated the talents of both teams, with Northam keeping up with Busselton for most of the game.
Unfortunately Northam went down 22-17.
Round two was against Pinjarra and this proved a challenge for the team, who again played well.
Pinjarra was too strong and ran away with the win 50-13. Pinjarra eventually went on to win the grand final.
Rounds three and four against Manjimup and Collie were both close games and displayed great teamwork from the girls.
Northam lost to Manjimup 25-14 and Collie 25-16.
Sunday round five got under way at 8.55am between Northam and Eaton.
Northam played intense basketball from the start and were determined to win.
With coaches and spectators encouraging the girls from the sidelines Northam scored an inspiring win 23-13.
Overall the weekend was a great success.
Congratulations to the girls for an outstanding performance during the weekend.
Special congratulations to team player Bianca Garlett who made the Junior Girls Championship All Stars selection.
