NORTHAM boy Toby Fillingham was chosen as the 2011 Wheatbelt Emerging Regional Junior Sports Star and was presented with the award last Thursday night at the ANZ Sports Star Awards, supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation.
Toby is a talented athlete who specialises in triple jump and breaking records for Little Athletics in many events.
He is a coach at the Northam Springfield Football Club and he enjoys sharing his knowlegde of athletics with younger people.
The ANZ Sports Star Awards celebrates its 55th year of congratulating the achievements and contributions of WA sports people.
Toby competed at a local, state and national level during 2011, and won a gold medal in the triple jump at both the WA Little Athletics Championships under 16 boys category and the AWA State Athletics Championships under 18s category.
Toby was also ranked second overall for men’s triple jump for WA last season.
Toby is one of nine young sports people from regional WA who travelled to Perth for the event to be acknowledged for his outstanding achievements in athletics.
Rob Thompson, CEO WA Sports Federation congratulated Toby on his efforts.
“We would like to congratulate Toby for his achievements to date and wish him success in his chosen sport,” Mr Thompson said.
