STEVE Pollard president of the Shire of Northam actively joined members of the Northam Lawn Tennis Club at last Sunday social tennis along with the official opening of the newly constructed playground.
President of tennis Tim Powell acknowledged the Shire of Northam for the 2009 community grants that were allocated to the Northam Lawn Tennis Club for the purchase of playground equipment, shadecloth and a water cooler.
Tim also recognised the volunteer hard work put in by club members to finish the project.
A special mention was made of Dianne Dwyer for her talent with grant applications.
Steve was pleased to see the outcome of the shire’s contribution and the volunteer input that had resulted in the competition of the project and admired the club for its team approach.
A fabulous spread of homemade afternoon tea was enjoyed by the many families before further rounds of tennis continued while the kids played happily in the playground.
A sausage sizzle followed to complete the day.
The East Avon Tennis Association (EATA) pennant competition will begin on Saturday, November 7.
Northam B Grade plays Beverley at Northam.
Northam A Grade begins on Saturday, November 14.
