LAST Sunday social tennis at the Northam Country Club was a love, set and match affair throughout the humid afternoon with the Valentine theme being a key part of the day for the Northam Lawn Tennis Club.
A lengthy afternoon tea break gave president Tim Powell a chance to deliver a wrap up of Northam Country Club board matters and to discuss fundraising opportunities with club members.
A delicious chocolate cake iced and decorated with a cherry shaped heart was admired and devoured by everyone, thanks to Julie Smith.
After a good workout on the tennis court, members later in the day gathered under the verandah and watched the beauty of the pink sunset on the distant horizon.
Pennant results:
A-grade Goomalling defeated A-grade Northam 21 sets to 9 sets.
A great win for young pennant player Geoff Dwyer who defeated the talented Glen Quartermaine in the singles on the Goomalling hard courts.
B-grade Meckering defeated Northam 16 sets to 14 sets (135 games to 124 games).
Northam ladies Heather Abel, Helen Douglas, Bev Young and Noelene Norrish contributed very well to the closeness of the score.
Next week A-grade Northam plays Quairading at Northam while Northam B-grade have a bye.
