THE East Avon Ladies Hockey Association took three sides to Perth on the weekend of June 19, 20 and 21 to compete in the CBH Women’s State Country Championships.
The A team played in Division 2 and won all their games to be on top of their pool. They played Lower Great Southern in a cross-over game and won 3-1 after going to flicks.
They went on to play Eastern Goldfields in the final but went down 3-0.
The second side played in Division 5 and ended up third out of seven teams with four wins and two losses.
The Veterans team did not lose a game and drew with Central Midlands on the last morning in a thriller but, as Central Midlands had scored more goals over the weekend, they were the winners of Vets Division 2 and East Avon the runners-up.
Congratulations to Caroline Robinson who was selected for the Allstars team and Shelley Lombardini and Rochelle Osbourne for being selected in the Vets Allstar team.
The association was awarded the Fallows Cup for being well presented and generally the all round nice guys of the championships.
President of the association Jocelyn Antonio said all the players and manageresses represented the association in a friendly manner.
“The coaches of the A,B and Vets team Phill Wass, David Fox and Mick Trevethan respectively managed the teams well and umpires John Ward and Rodney Thorton were helpful throughout the carnival with Rodney helping with rub-downs for the players,” she said.
Results from last week’s competition Meckering defeated Burracoppin 3-0. Goal scorers: Wendy Leeson, Brianne Hitchcock and Chantelle Leeson.
Tammin defeated Merredin 1-0, goal scorer Charmaine Thomson.
Quairading drew with Kellerberrin 1-1, goal scorers Kellerberrin Julie Clarke and Quairading Lisa Powell.
