THE last event for the Northam Running Club 2011 season was the 10 kilometre championships held on the fast Muresk track.
Cool conditions were a blessing for the starters however a tricky crosswind would mean tactics were to be at a premium.
The start of the main 10 kilometre event saw Michael Dymnicki closely followed by Chris Cummins lead the pack out of the campus.
It was a close tussle for the first five kilometres with Dymnicki only holding a 20 second lead at the half way mark over Cummins.
With the stiff breeze causing runners to tire quickly the second five kilometres proved to be a battle, but it was Dymnicki who prevailed in the end to win comfortably in a time of 33:13.
Chris Cummins ran in second in 35:12.
Terry Cummins continued his good form of recent weeks to take third place and break the 40 minute mark to record 39:38.
Mark Smith again ran well and was made to work to achieve his 500 kilometre milestone with the club.
He ran in with 49:02.
Nadine Negus dominated the five kilometre event and ran in with a time of 27:07.
In the shorter 2.5 kilometre the results were close with the girls taking all the podium places.
Renae Robertson led the field for a good win a time of 13:39.
Second and third place was a battle between Xuan Ngugen and Jodie Smith with Ngugen holding off Smith to claim second in 14:41.
Smith finished in 14:59.
The next running club event will be next year on February 9 next year with details to be released closer to the date.
