Double header at Northam

BOTH A and B Grade pennant teams played at the Northam Lawn Tennis Club against York and Cunderdin, respectively, last Saturday, November 21.

Thirty-two competitors from the East Avon Tennis Association (EATA) played at Northam under ideal conditions playing spirited tennis throughout the afternoon.

Pennant Results:

Northam A Grade defeated York 15 sets all, winning by only 3 games.

A great effort by Geoff Dwyer, Issac Temby, Leon Temby and Allen Smith; and the ladies Cathy North, Kirsten Arthur, Linda Temby and Sharon Blight.

Northam B Grade were defeated by Cunderdin, 25 sets to 5 sets, the final score line did not indicate the competitive nature of the day.

Well led by pennant captain John Dwyer, Dennis Saunders, Chris Packer and Scott Tagliaferri; and the ladies Helen Douglas, Lyn Tagliaferri, Kathy Saunders and Bev Young.

An enjoyable night followed with ‘pizza’ in the club house prepared by Dianne Dwyer and Julie Smith.

Next Saturday Northam A Grade pennants will be played at Goomalling on the hard courts. Northam B Grade have a bye.

The Northam mixed doubles club championship event will be held next Sunday, November 29 starting at 1pm sharp.

The first championship event of the season will be sponsored by Valley Ford Northam Hyundai.

Nominations close Thursday, November 26.
