Boys win basketball championship

THE Northam Amatuer Basketball Association under 13 boys basketball team travelled to Perry Lakes Stadium to participate in the annual basketball championships on February 20 and 21.

Coached by Matt Woods for the second year in a row, the boys had a successful weekend, going the entire weekend without dropping a game and finishing the weekend with a medal from the grand final.

The team was made up from three under 13 Northam Amateur Basketball Association teams from Slammers, Avonvale and York.

Northam defeated Waroona 49 to 16, Manjimup 37 to 33, Denmark 62 to 13, Dongara 37 to 29 and Collie 54 to 25.

Northam played Dongara in the grand final, and as close as it became during the game, Northam were the winners, 41-37.

Most valuable player was awarded to Tommy Nickels (Avonvale) for the grand final and both Tommy and Jacob Wehr (York) were both awarded all stars for the weekend.

Matt Woods congratulated the team for endeavor and team spirit the boys showed all weekend.

He also thanked manager Sharon Foley for all her work for the weekend and Garry Wehr for scoring.

He also thanked the parents and friends who came along and cheered the boys on.
