Santa visits to light up Christmas season

03 Dec, 2009 10:38 AM
THE lead up to the festive season was celebrated by the community of Northam on Thursday, November 26 with the annual Christmas lights celebration.

Many locals especially children turned out to see the Christmas lights and meet Santa.

The Northam Area Youth Band played throughout the evening entertaining the crowd and raising money for its trip to China to perform at the World Youth Expo in Shanghai.

Father Andrew Bowron from the Catholic Church blessed the roads for the Chirstmas period.

Roadwise officer Ray Long launched the White Ribbon campaign and presented Rosemary Power with the Human Spirit Award.

She was presented with the award for her commitment to road safety throughout the Midlands and Wheatbelt Region through education, community awareness and committee membership.

The Christmas tree lights were turned on by Santa and Shire of Northam President Steve Pollard who encouraged everyone to enjoy the Christmas season and keep themselves and their family safe.
